A note from Sarah Allen, the founder of the Shockwave Multiuser Pages (once Sarah's Multiuser Pages!):

Multiuser Open Source Lingo

Director 7 movies are provided so you can open them up in Director and see how they were done. These movies may not work perfectly and may be undocumented, but they should help illustrate how to use the multiuser Lingo. The motivation for this page is to get people started, provide ideas, and show examples of how to do various things. I want my page of Multiuser Shockwave Websites to get really, really long.

I'm starting with some simple ones that were in pretty good shape. I'll add more in the next few weeks. If you have any special requests, I'm open to suggestion.

Chat (implemented with behaviors): Just to get you going. Includes a linked cast with the (new) behaviors in it.

TestTypes: this is a test movie that we use to test sending different Lingo types.

Dave Simmons, "extraterrestrial engineer," has donated the following movies to this effort. Dave wrote the Shockwave Multiuser Server and Xtra (except for about 26 lines of code that I wrote). So he's pretty good at this stuff. Please don't send him e-mail directly. If you have questions or problems with these movie post something to the newsgroup.

WhiteBoard: includes a lobby area which displays number of people in multiple rooms, inside each room is a shared whiteboard and text chat

Don't be concerned when you open these next three movies and there's a blank stage and score. It all happens in the startMovie script and the message window. When Dave says "minimal" he means it! These movies do provide sample code that you can apply to creating your cool media rich interactive community experiences.

PeerConnMinimal Peer and host movies for doing peer-to-peer messaging.

DatabaseMinimal Basic database stuff with a smaple dbf file.

IRCTest If you wanted to do an IRC Client in Director, this would get you started.

Ely Greenfield and I taught a class at the UCON this year and Ely prepared a great example of how to do an avatar chat. There is a framework movie that has graphics, score and everything except the multiuser code. Then there is the finished version. Maybe someday I'll write up a tutorial to go along with it, but till then you can check out...
